As part of the application process to be admitted to the Fashion Design program, all prospective students must prepare a statement of understanding.
In a short essay (300 – 500 words), prospective students should explain who their favourite designer is and why. In reviewing essays, the Admissions Committee will be looking for general expressions of understanding about fashion design and insights about the designer an applicant is writing about specifically.
In the essay, applicants should discuss the different elements of their favourite designer’s work and reference magazines and online materials to add substance and authority to their writing. Applicants should present their statement of interest in a professional manner, paying attention to spelling, grammar and format. Note: Essays will not be returned.
