Admission Requirements

Students are required have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent).

Students not enrolling directly after Secondary School with Mature Student Status must successfully complete a mature student test for admission.

For international students, please refer to the International Students page for specific requirements

As part of the application process to be admitted to the Video Game Design & Development program , all prospective students must prepare a statement of commitment and meet certain academic requirements.

Statement of Commitment

In a short essay (300 – 500 words), prospective students should outline their personal and career goals in the video game industry. In reviewing essays, the Admissions Committee will be looking for evidence of applicants’ research, their understanding of the video game industry and their explanation of how they see themselves building a career in gaming.

Applicants may wish to include these and other details about the industry in their essays

  • The location of major video game production companies in Canada.
  • The different skill sets and functions that comprise a design and development team.
  • Their goals and ideal starting position upon graduation from the Video Game Design & Development program.
  • The potential for career growth in the industry.

Applicants should present their statement of interest in a professional manner, paying attention to spelling, grammar and format. Exceeding the word count to some degree will be accepted. Note: Essays will not be returned.

Academic Requirements

Prospective students must have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or have successfully passed a Grade 11 math course. Applicants without this requirement may quality for acceptance provided they attend Math Camp – the successful completion of this course prepares the potential student for sufficient entry into the program. Secondary school courses in Grade 11 Visual Arts and Grade 11 Computers/Digital Media are also recommended but not required.
